In the talk we will present some methods, based on the use of the topological degree, to study problems of existence, multiplicity and bifurcation of periodic solutions of some ordinary differential equations of the form

$$ u''=f(t,u,u'), $$

$$ u''=f(t,u(t),u(t-\tau)). $$
